Susan Elizabeth Hough

Susan Elizabeth HoughA Californian for most of her adult life, Susan Elizabeth Hough has a deep affection for the natural wonders of her adopted home state. She holds a PhD in earth sciences from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego. A geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Pasadena, she studies earthquake hazards in California and historic earthquakes in the central United States and India.

Hough has written many articles—both technical and popular—about earthquakes for journals, newspapers, and magazines, and she is the author of Earthshaking Science: What We Know and Don't Know about Earthquakes (Princeton University Press). She lives in southern California, just a stone's throw from the Raymond fault.
